About Downstream: Dragon Bridge to Cukrarna and the sluice gate
From the Dragon Bridge, follow the Ljubljanica downstream along the quieter Poljanski nasip. On the way you pass Plečnik’s wedge-shaped Peglezen, where Poljanska and Kapiteljska meet, and reach Cukrarna, the former sugar refinery reborn as a gallery of contemporary art. Just beyond stands Plečnik’s monumental sluice gate, built between 1939 and 1944, which marks where the river leaves the city. Our advice: return along the opposite bank and finish with a coffee at the market.
