Ljubljana’s first public library
About Seminary Library
The library in the Seminary Palace beside the cathedral is one of the treasures of Baroque Ljubljana. You enter through a portal made in 1714 in the workshop of Luka Mislej, with statues of Hercules by the sculptor Angelo Putti. Founded in 1701 by members of the Academia Operosorum, it was Ljubljana’s first public scholarly library; Giulio Quaglio painted its ceiling in 1721, and the original oak furniture by the carpenter Josip Weidinger survives. Our advice: phone ahead to check when you can visit.
