The Slovenian Museum of Natural History, on Prešernova cesta in the same grand building as the National Museum, is the country’s main museum of nature. Its highlights include the famous Zois mineral collection, the Hohenwart shell collection, insects and herbaria, dioramas of alpine, wetland and forest wildlife, an almost complete mammoth skeleton and a presentation of the olm (Proteus anguinus), the pale salamander of Slovenia’s caves. Our advice: perfect before a trip to Postojna.
