Iški Vintgar Gorge
A canyon south of the city
About Iški Vintgar Gorge
Iški vintgar, south of the Ljubljana Marshes, is a gorge of rapids, sandbanks, river pools and steep rocky banks shaped by tectonic faulting. The walk reveals the area’s turbulent geology in its pebbles of dolomite and coloured stone, and alpine plants such as rhododendron and Carniolan primrose grow on the cliffs. Our advice: a cool summer walk, best with good shoes.
