Močilnik and the sources of the Ljubljanica
Where the Ljubljanica is born
About Močilnik and the sources of the Ljubljanica
At Močilnik, near Vrhnika, water from several underground streams comes to the surface and becomes the Ljubljanica, the river that flows through the capital. The valley is lined by overhanging rock walls known as the Devil’s Crags, and in one corner, above a bridge, the so-called Jason’s Fistprint is pressed into the rock, a nod to the legend of the Argonauts. It is where the Ljubljana Marshes meet the Karst, and a restaurant and guesthouse are open all year. Our advice: follow the river back towards the city in your imagination: it is the same water you saw at the Triple Bridge.
