Volčji Potok, between Ljubljana and Kamnik, is the most visited botanical park in Slovenia. Its 85 hectares hold some 3,500 plants from around the world, with ponds, marked paths and a castle hill with ruins and a view of the Kamnik Alps. It is lovely in every season and holds regular seasonal flower shows, and its glasshouses show cacti, orchids and tropical butterflies. Our advice: spring is spectacular; check the website for the flower-show dates.
