The Museum of Architecture and Design (MAO) is one of the oldest museums of its kind in Europe, and Slovenia’s national museum for architecture, urban planning, industrial and graphic design and photography. It occupies Fužine Castle, the only preserved Renaissance castle in Ljubljana, on the Ljubljanica east of the centre, and organises BIO, the world’s longest-running design biennial. It is closed while exhibitions are being installed and on some public holidays. Our advice: check the programme, then walk or cycle back to town along the river.
