The National Museum, in a palace of 1888 opposite the Opera, holds Slovenia’s archaeological treasures, among them the Iron Age Vače situla and the bone flute from Divje Babe cave, thought to have been made by Neanderthals. The Natural History Museum shares the building, and there is a second branch in Metelkova.
