Ljubljana’s flatiron

About Peglezen

Peglezen, “the charcoal iron”, fills the narrow wedge of land where Poljanska cesta and Kapiteljska ulica meet, just east of the market. A slim house of the same nickname stood here until the earthquake of 1895. Plečnik designed the new building in the early 1930s as part of his plans for the area around Vodnikov trg, and it was built at the initiative of Matko Prelovšek, the city’s head of construction, and his wife Elza. Our advice: see it on the way from the Dragon Bridge to Cukrarna.

Why it's on our list

  • A slender wedge by Plečnik
  • Named after a charcoal iron
  • Steps from the Dragon Bridge

Opening hours, prices and seasonal openings change, so please check with Peglezen before you go.
